Getting ready
Today was a big collection of last-minute odds & ends that needed to be done before I left for the west coast. I was able to cross off all the tasks written on post-it notes stuck to my computer. Uncharacteristically I was completely packed by late afternoon, though the train wasn't scheduled to leave until 2:47 a.m. This gave me plenty of time to repack everything in my duffel bag into a suitcase with wheels when I decided that hauling everything on my back was going to get old real quick.
Much to my surprise, the train left on time. I only had to spend about 15 minutes in the station after being dropped off by Joanne and Wally. Good thing, since I was mentally kicking myself for telling them to leave instead of waiting with me. As soon as the car pulled away I regretted that decision.
