New look

Dirt in back yardOne wheelbarrow load at a time, I've moved more than half of the big pile of dirt from my neighbor's yard to my back yard.

It may not look like much now, but this relatively smooth layer has eliminated the many ups and downs created by big exposed tree roots all across area in the photo (tree trunk at top right).

With a layer of fertilizer and grass seed, we're hoping for a transformation.

A few weeks from now this will be a lush green lawn. Or not. Several other attempts have failed, but this time is different. The 2-3 inches of new soil gives the grass a better chance of growing. As does a new bag of seed replacing the five-year-old one I tried last time. We'll see.
