Welcome back

After several years during which we rarely saw any bees at all, it was good to see several buzzing around the purple flowers in the back yard.

I know that there's been a huge loss of bees due to environmental and other problems. First the honeybees disappeared, but we still saw the bigger, black-and-yellow bumble bees. Now they're in danger too.

I'm happy to report that today I saw several honey bees enjoying the purple flowers I planted last year, and at least one bumble bee, as well. There's been an upsurge in urban bee-keeping in Cleveland, so I'm guessing that my flowers are contributing to a neighbor's honey.
