Notes

Day of the Dead altarThis altar from the Day of the Dead celebration a few weeks ago may be more artistic than the impromptu collection of notes and stuffed animals in front of the boarding house that burned on my street, but they're similar nonetheless.

These notes are written on clean cardboard shipping tags rather than torn scraps of note paper, but the intent is the same. They are messages from us the living to those who have passed away.

They're evidence that we've taken a moment from our daily lives to think about the finality of death and what it means. The note reminds us and anyone who sees it that someone cares.
