Pierce generously

Exploded spaghetti squash in microwaveApparently the Joy of Cooking was not exaggerating when it instructed me to "pierce generously with a sharp knife" before putting the spaghetti squash into the microwave for 15 minutes.

I stabbed the squash four or five times—seemed adequate to me—and set it on the turntable. Twelve minutes there was a loud "bang." The microwave door popped open, and the squash was ready to serve—sort of.

Cleaning the microwave took longer than cooking the squash. Eventually we had squash topped with tomato sauce made from our garden tomatoes and basil along with a chopped salad made with greens from the Gordon Square Farmer's Market.
