The storm hits

Kitchen interior showing exposed wall framingAfter the first day of demolition/tear out the kitchen looks like this.

In the corner you can see distinct eras: at top is the original framing that uses actual 2" x 4" studs, and lots of them.

Below that is a section that we modified about twenty years ago using "nominal" 2 x 4s that are actually 1-1/2" x 3-1/2". Looks pretty flimsy by comparison.

To the left is wallpaper that looks to be from the 40s or 50s, I'd guess. This house has been through many transitions since it was built around 1890. We're just adding another layer to the archaeological record.
