Special treat

Stuffed chicken on plateToday, thanks to a $20 discount via Groupon.com, we tried a new downtown restaurant as a Valentine's Day treat.

La Strada, on East 4th Street, was dark and inviting on a chilly night. We sat upstairs on the balcony at a tiny table for two. We could catch a glimpse of the open kitchen below—next time I'll ask for a table with a better view of the action.

We shared a very good eggplant appetizer, lightly breaded and fried crisp, with ricotta cheese and tomato on top.

Joanne had a spicy chicken kebab, and I tried the chicken stuffed with prosciutto and goat cheese. Both were good but not spectacular. Overall I'd grade La Strada "A" for ambiance and "B" for food. Prices were moderate: appetizers $8-10, entrees $18-26.
