Sunset from West Bay Inn

Sunset from West Bay Inn

Sunset itself tonight, the moment when the sun actually dipped below the horizon, wasn't spectacular. The clouds were still white against the blue sky. But as we sat sipping wine at the West Bay Inn the color gradually took over, painting the clouds with reds and oranges.

In the center of the photo you see limestone gravel from the LaFarge quarry being loaded via a conveyor boom onto a barge. The small vertical object on the horizon to the right of the barge is the Perry Peace Memorial on Middle Bass Island.

This panorama is a group of three photos taken about 15 minutes after sunset, stitched together using Photoshop's Automate: Photomerge feature. I had to do a bit of manual adjusting to get it to work, including cropping to straighten horizon lines, adjusting of levels and curves to get the sky colors reasonably close, and finally using gradient blends on layer masks to blend the three together.
